The need for nutritious food is especially great among school-age children in Jeff Davis County. More than 40% of the children enrolled in our two county school districts are Food Pantry clients. There are no school cafeterias and no federal lunch programs in Jeff Davis County schools. Our Pack-A-Lunch program fills the gap for these children. Food Pantry clients with school-age children (pre-K through Grade 12, including homeschoolers) are provided a “lunch kit” which contains brown bag lunch ingredients all year long.
Children receive: Whole wheat sandwich bread Deli lunchmeat String cheese Peanut butter Jelly (grape or strawberry) Apples Baby carrots Bananas Grapes Oranges Yogurt Variety of individual-size snack bags
The annual cost of this program to the Food Pantry is approximately $50,000. We strive to provide high-quality, healthful food for approximately $1.60 a day per child.
