KIDS PANTRY
According to the US Census Bureau, Jeff Davis County ranks #1 (out of 254 Texas counties) in school-age child poverty (age 5-17) and #6 in the nation. In an effort to combat child food insecurity, the Food Pantry has partnered with the Jeff Davis County Library in Fort Davis to offer a Kids Pantry.
The Kids Pantry works under a unique model of operation. There are no applications, no income requirements, and no personal information is collected. No judgment, no stigma. If you are a hungry kid you can stop by the library and get food. This is available to ALL Jeff Davis County children - age 0 through high school graduation. The Kids Pantry is stocked with family-friendly foods suitable for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. Any FDISD middle and high school student may come to the library and get a free lunch from the Kids Pantry. Kids Pantry is sponsored by a generous grant from our partner, West Texas Food Bank, and individual donors. Through our three children's programs (Kids Pantry, Pack-A-Lunch, & In-school Snacks) the Food Pantry feeds approximately 70% of the children in Jeff Davis County.
