Job Description

Paydays are the 15th & last day of the month
Salary: $15/hour
Reports to: Executive Director

Job Summary:
A large portion of the essential job duties require heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs) and working outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
This position ensures that the food pantry is stocked and ready for business on distribution days by assisting with receiving food from vendors, moving material from the receiving area to designated areas throughout the food pantry, and assisting with Fort Davis, Valentine, and DMR (Davis Mountains Resort) distributions.
Other duties include helping to break down cardboard boxes and hauling trash/recycling to the county receiving station.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Understanding of and a passionate commitment to the Food Pantry’s mission
- Adherence to scheduled work hours including regular and reliable attendance and punctuality
- Assist with
- Receiving of food vendor trucks, including inspection of products
- Offloading bulk food from pallets
- Stocking shelves, refrigerators, freezers
- Breaking down cardboard boxes
- Hauling trash and recycling to county receiving station
- Assist with all distributions including:
- Fort Davis:
- setting up for distributions, bagging/carrying client’s food to their vehicle, restocking shelves during distribution, and cleaning up afterward.
- Offsite distributions in Valentine and DRM:
- In conjunction with the Mobile Comunidad Transportation Coordinator, selecting and loading items onto the van, riding in the van to the distribution site, unloading items upon arrival at the site, stocking and restocking shelves/tables, reloading the van after distribution, and unloading the van after returning to the food pantry
- Fort Davis:
- Interact and communicate comfortably and professionally with staff, volunteers, and clients
- Attend training sessions
- Coordinate with Mobile Comunidad Transportation Coordinator when necessary

Work Hours and Benefits:
Be available to work Thurday-Saturday twice a month on food pantry distribution weeks. This amounts to approximately 40 hours per month. See the end of this document for exact work days in 2024.
- Scheduled days on distribution weeks (which happens twice a month):
- Thu 9:30 am - 6:30 pm (approx 9 hrs with a 30-60 minute unpaid lunch break)
- Fri 9:30 am - 5:30 pm (approx 8.5 hrs with a 30-60 minute unpaid lunch break)
- Sat 11:00 am 1:00 pm (2 hrs)
- There are some other minor duties such as stocking snacks at FDISD schools which we will be discussed during the interview.
- Paid employee training (food handling certification, West Texas Food Bank training, various online courses, etc.)
- This position has no health insurance benefits and no paid time off
Physical Demands:

Essential Qualifications and Job Requirements:
- Understanding of and a passionate commitment to the Food Pantry’s mission
- High school diploma
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to pass a background check
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions and follow verbal directions
- Ability to multitask and prioritize
- Ability to work productively with minimal supervision
- Excellent interpersonal skills; including the ability to communicate clearly, comfortably, and courteously to a diverse cultural population with a professional, warm demeanor
- Ability to maintain client confidentiality
- Texas Food Handlers Certificate (Food Pantry will pay for you to get this if you don't already have a current certificate.)
Preferred / Non-essential Qualifications
- Bilingual Spanish is a plus
- Ability to operate and drive a cargo van
- Clean driving record
This job description may change over time as requirements and employee skill levels change. The employer retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position.
There is a 90-day probationary period for this position in which the employee will receive extensive training and support from their supervisor, weekly check-ins to receive feedback, support for improving performance to meet the Food Pantry standards and expectations, a copy of company policies and procedures, and a written performance evaluation at the end of the probationary period.
