In addition to our bimonthly distributions, senior box program, and emergency food assistance, the Food Pantry is the only consistent source of free school lunch in Jeff Davis County. Because our schools have neither cafeterias or federally subsidized lunch programs, our Pack-A-Lunch program serves nearly half of the children enrolled in Jeff Davis County schools. According to the US Census, 42% of Jeff Davis County children ages 5-17 live in poverty. There were 187 children enrolled in our PAL program in 2023. Your monthly donation of $50 will sponsor a child's lunches for one month.
In 2023, the Food Pantry served 262 households a month (603 individuals). The average Food Pantry client is a working family of 3 with an annual income of $14,534, well below the Federal Poverty Level. We distributed 260,474 pounds of food and 39% of that was fresh fruits and vegetables.
The Food Pantry relies solely on the donations from individuals, corporations, grants from foundations, and our three annual fundraisers. Without the generous support of our community it would not be possible to fulfill our mission.
The Food Pantry of Jeff Davis County is a 501(c)3 charitable organization. Federal Tax ID #75-2875263. See our profile on GuideStar.
