davis-mts-600x4001.jpgThe Food Pantry kicks off a brand new fundraiser: the Mount Livermore Hunger Challenge.

This fundraiser, to benefit the Food Pantry of Jeff Davis County, held October 6, 2018, the first Saturday in October, will include a climb up Mount Livermore, the highest peak in Jeff Davis County, as well as a guided nature hike for those who are not climbers. This is a unique opportunity to gain access to our iconic mountain via the Davis Mountains Preserve, managed by The Nature Conservancy.

Climbers and hikers pay a registration fee of $50 to help cover direct costs of the event and are required to raise a minimum of $250 in donations for the Food Pantry of Jeff Davis County. Volunteers contribute their time performing crucial behind-the-scenes jobs.

The day starts out with breakfast being served at 7:30 a.m. in the McIvor Center. The climb and hike will begin at 8:00 a.m. Sack lunches will be provided. Please bring any special food you may want. We will provide bottled water.

The celebration will begin at 4:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:00 p.m.

Extra Choices – You may camp out on Friday night and Saturday night. You may pitch your tent near the McIvor Center and have access to the toilets and showers. There are also 12 bunk beds (bedding needed) inside which are available for $10 per night. The cabin has three twin beds in the loft and two  full size beds downstairs. It may be rented for $1,000.

If you plan to stay overnight, you may arrive at 5:00 p.m. on Friday and leave by 11:00 a.m. on Sunday. Wherever you stay, please be sure you leave the space as clean as it was before you got there and observe trail etiquette at all times.

We look forward to seeing you!
